The important information is visible, structured and ready to use.
Whether they’re in SharePoint or still on a shared drive, valuable information is trapped inside the files.
Already using SharePoint?
If you still have to open documents individually to understand them, SharePoint is functioning as a cloud filing cabinet.
Autofill unlocks what's inside.
Still using L drives and M drives?
Those documents can't benefit from Copilot, SharePoint, or AI automation.
The longer they stay there, the more capability you miss.
Once the metadata exists, SharePoint can do much more.
See it
Views, filters, totals and calendars expose what matters without opening documents one by one.
↓

Ask it
Ask Copilot about one file or the whole library, then follow the answer back to its source.
↓

Act on it
Trigger alerts, routing, approvals and processing from information already extracted.
↓

Visualise it
Go from operational views to rapid HTML outputs and live SPFx dashboards.

Turn a good prompt into a repeatable skill.
A prompt gets an answer once. A skill saves the process, rules and format so the team can run the same work consistently from a short request.
Skills mean the difference between ad hoc Copilot use and a reusable team capability.

Dovetail turns your SharePoint data into operational business capability.

Contract management
Extract dates, values and obligations; alert owners; visualise renewals and risk.
Policy management
Surface owners, review dates and status; flag policies that need attention.
Supplier records
Expose commitments, renewals and missing information across the portfolio.
Project documents
Classify by project, site, owner and date; create role-based views and actions.
FAQ
What are Autofill columns in SharePoint?
Autofill columns use AI to analyse documents and automatically add selected information to SharePoint columns. Instead of opening every file to find a date, owner, value or status, teams can see that information directly in the document library.
Microsoft describes Autofill as a way to extract, summarise or generate content from uploaded files and save the response as metadata in a designated SharePoint column.
What information can Autofill extract from documents?
That depends on the document and the process. Examples include contract renewal dates, supplier names, policy owners, approval status, project references, financial values and short summaries.
The most useful fields are agreed during discovery and tested against representative documents before they are used more widely.
Can this work with our existing SharePoint libraries?
Yes. Autofill columns can be added to an existing SharePoint document library, allowing you to improve how information is organised without moving or renaming the original files. Microsoft states that files are not moved, renamed or deleted when Autofill columns are created.
Dovetail can review the current library structure, document types, metadata and permissions to identify what can be improved.
Do our documents leave Microsoft 365?
No your data or documents do not leave your Microsoft 365 environment. It all runs inside your tenant and everything we build stays inside your tenant.
Will the solution respect our existing SharePoint permissions?
Yes, the solution is designed around your existing SharePoint access controls and governance model. Microsoft notes that existing permissions and access controls continue to apply when Autofill columns are used.
Dovetail also reviews confidential libraries, role-based access and who should be able to see extracted information, dashboards and automated actions.
What happens if the AI extracts something incorrectly?
Requirements depend on your existing Microsoft 365 setup and what you want to achieve.
Dovetail reviews your licensing, SharePoint environment, permissions and governance needs before recommending the right approach.
What Microsoft licences or technical setup do we need?
Requirements depend on the capabilities you want to use and your organisation’s existing Microsoft 365 configuration. A simple use case may only require Autofill and improved SharePoint views, while other processes may benefit from Power Automate, Copilot or a custom SPFx experience.
Dovetail checks licensing, SharePoint readiness, permissions and governance requirements before recommending a solution. This avoids assuming that every organisation needs the same technology.
How does Dovetail help us get started?
We begin with one document-heavy process and a clear business outcome. Dovetail identifies the information that matters, reviews the technical environment, configures and tests the Microsoft tools, and builds any required views, workflows or custom SharePoint experiences.
A focused pilot can then be used to measure accuracy, time saved and process improvements before considering wider adoption.
